It’s all happening.

Yes, come Friday, July 27 you’ll be able to get pick up your official 2018 credentials and official 2018 volunteer tshirt (one word…CAMINALS!!!) and be all, well, official!

On Friday, we’ll be at the State Theatre from 1 to 7 pm to get you set to volunteer and perhaps cajole you into signing up for one or two, or maybe three more shifts. And since we’re there a whole six hours, there is no need to come right at 1 pm. And we will not be handing out anything before 1 pm.

If you’re picking up credentials for someone else, or having someone else pick up yours, please download the volunteer waiver in advance, have it filled out by the appropriate party, and bring it in to credentialing.

If you can’t make it on Friday, credentials can also be picked up at the Festival Officelocated at 232 E. Front Street (directly across from the State Theatre) from 10 am to 2 pmon Saturday, July 28. Then, beginning Monday, July 30, credentials will be available at the Festival Office during our regular business hours (10 am – 6 pm). We’re often asked what to pair your volunteer shirt with while on duty and the answer is anything that is comfortable-jeans, khakis, slacks, shorts, or skirt-as long as it’s clean and not torn. And wear comfortable shoes! Can’t stress that enough. The shoes are key!

These have JUST been made available for signup in our volunteer portal and it would be amazing if you could lend a hand. They involve some physical labor working with our crew and venue teams to make sure everything is all ready to go come Tuesday. These shifts are incredibly crucial and take you outside of the usual lines, tickets, concessions, seating rotation of regular festival shifts. Plus, everyone who signs up will receive a SWAG Buck. Give one a try and get some volunteering done early!
The warehouse is an entirely vital component of TCFF operations and it needs your help! And if you signup for any warehouse shift, you’ll earn DOUBLE SWAG for each three hour shift. Yes, warehouse operations are already underway. Warehouse volunteers should be able to lift between 20-50 pounds and not mind breaking a sweat or getting dirt under your fingernails.

Also, Open Space has space for more volunteers! Make magic at Open Space by signing up for a shift at this favorite FREE venue for the community. You will earn SWAG, as well as the satisfaction of making special memories for thousands–and we do mean thousands.

We seriously need your help to make sure the venue formerly known as Hockstad Auditorium makes a splash it’s first year back at the fest and its debut year as The Kubrick. I mean did you see the video our talented team of interns, volunteers, and staff made? This is going to be the place to volunteer. And you’ll be working with some of the best guys in the biz. Management roles still available. Check out the list here. We would be so grateful to have you join The Kubrick crew.
The best party of the year, the TCFF Opening Night Party, still needs some more help. Especially for second shift security and signing up is worth some SWAG bucks.
We also need TIPS trained volunteers for libations pouring at both the Opening and Filmmaker parties. These are super fun shifts that put you right in the heart of all the revelry and merry-making. These shifts are currently unlisted, so please reply to this email if you are interested and fit the bill.
Our hospitality suite for our visiting filmmaker helps could use a little help with staffing this year. You will be making sure the needs of our visiting filmmaker and industry guests are met and maintaining a clean, welcoming, and well stocked Filmmaker Loft space. Friendliness and discretion are key. Email if you are interested in volunteering at the Loft.

It has come to our attention that was down for a while. If you sent us an email and never heard back, please send again. It’s up and running and we apologize for any inconvenience. We love to hear from you and would never want you to think otherwise.

Also, for those of you following along on our quest for a trailer we can use a float on Fridaynight at Open Space, we’ve come close, but have yet to nail anything down for certain. Please, please, please, if you know of anyone or have seen a float/trailer bed that would work in your neighbor’s driveway, drop us a line.

Get in your volunteer hours early! Throughout the school year at the State and Bijou, we are assisted by wonderful students from area high schools earning volunteer credits for Civics class and various clubs. If you know you’re going to need volunteer hours, why not do it now, and volunteer at TCFF! There’s no cooler volunteer gig in town! Sign up and you won’t have to worry about fitting in the time during your busy academic year. Plus, you will be helping us out immensely! Spread the word to your friends!

There are still openings for the Answer Squad team, the great volunteers who help people ride the shuttles and navigate the festival! If you love meeting new people, giving directions and advice about TCFF and our town, this is the job for you. You will represent the best of TCFF and Northern Michigan. Special training is required, but we make it convenient to attend and you will get a sneak peek inside the festival in preparation for your tour guide gig at these fun interactive training sessions:

Monday, July 30 at 5:00 pm – Meet at The Kubrick (You’ll be back in time for the 6 pmvolunteer movie — and you’ll probably be able to easily snag a parking spot, too!)

You, our fantastic volunteers, already form a phenomenal team, so why not join a team! The fifth annual Volunteer vs. Filmmaker Softball Game will be at 10 am on Saturday, August 4, at the Civic Center. This is your chance to show what a formidable force TCFF volunteers truly are! No need to RSVP, just be sure to pack your sneakers and we’ll provide the jerseys. And bring gloves if you have them. If we don’t have enough gear, it may turn into a Kickball game. But either way, it will be fun!
I might have previously said I was giving my final manager plea, but we have just a few more key positions to fill, particularly at The Kubrick. So if blue is your color, you love the festival and making a difference in your community, and enjoy hanging out with cool people bonding over the course of the week the way only venue teams can, please consider coming aboard. Check out the available roles here.
We hope you’ve made plans to join us Monday, July 30 at 6 pm at The Kubrick for the clever doc “Perfect Bid.” You’ll never look at “The Price is Right” the same way again. Trust us. We will also do the traditional volunteer orientation pre-movie (we’ll keep it brief, just the essentials) and hand out FREE Volunteer-Only tickets to select festival movies. Don’t miss it! Your credentials are your ticket to all the fun.

Thank you again for all that you’re doing and all that you will do in the coming days. We already know it’s going to be a great festival because we know we can count on YOU. You are truly the World’s greatest volunteers. We’d even put it on a mug.

See you Friday!
