• Check in volunteers. Radio the TCFF office if more are needed. They may have floaters.
  • Thank Volunteers and welcome them to your venue.
  • Volunteer personal belongings can be left in the venue’s secure area, but let them know we can’t guarantee the safety of their possessions.
  • Volunteer oasis & water is available
  • Locations of bathrooms, emergency exits and fire extinguishers
  • Contact your direct manager if unsure about any situation
  • For all emergencies Dial 911. Then go to your Manager who will contact Mother. Mother will notify other appropriate parties.
  • Review the Fire procedures section for the venue. Explain that policies and procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all patrons and volunteers.
  • Technical personnel only are permitted in Projection Booth.
  • TCFF provides hearing assistive devices at every indoor venue. These are located in the Box Office. (Refer to the “Accessibility Toolkit” section in this manual for details.)
  • Service animals are allowed in the building; animal credential IDs are not required.
  • Persons using mobility devices may be seated in the accessible balcony at the Opera House. The Lift must be operated by COH personnel. The lift is too noisy to be operated while a film/panel is in progress.
  • Alcohol: Volunteers may not bring any type of alcoholic beverage with them when working their volunteer shifts, nor drink during their shift, nor between shifts before returning to work.  This includes all venues, festival activities, and other festival related locations whether indoor or outside.  This also includes parties where they may be volunteering. Drivers for filmmakers and special guests are volunteers and may not consume alcohol before or during their shifts.  Furthermore, volunteers may not arrive at any festival site inebriated. This policy will be strictly adhered to for the safety and benefit of our patrons and volunteers.
  • Provide a brief explanation of “FRIENDS OF THE FESTIVAL”. Each volunteer is asked to help us promote the program. Indicate location of “Friends” box. Those who become “Friends” during this year’s festival will be entered to win prizes, including an unlimited pass to next year’s festival. “Friends” will also have the ability to buy tickets to next year’s festival one week before the general public. Becoming a Friend is half-price if they sign up before September 1.
  • Advise volunteers of the panel or film to be shown and turn around times. (This will be showcased on a whiteboard.)
  • Note pertinent details occurring during that shift such as Ballots, Speakers etc.
  • Ask volunteers if they have preferences for job assignments. Actual assignments will be made based on the needs at the Venue at that time. Assign to positions and have them report to the appropriate Assistant Managers Volunteers report to the Assistant Manager: Front House for check out.
  • When the shift is over any uniforms, aprons and flashlights will be collected.
  • Suggestions are welcome; returning the Volunteer Feedback Form before leaving is preferable. May be mailed or dropped off at festival office.
  • Be sure to thank everyone for volunteering with the film festival!
