Acoustic Dynamite
Acoustic Dynamite is a folk-rock act from Traverse City that plays everything from Latin, funk, soul and reggae to obscure pop classics from the ’40s and ’50s. Bob Downes and Jim Moore also perform an ever-changing mix of covers ranging from Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones and MC5. Look for their popular “open drum night” at Left Foot Charley.

 

Adolph Cwik
Adolph Cwik has performed throughout Northern Michigan from Alpena to Brimley to Petoskey, Boyne, East Jordan, Traverse City, Bellaire and more! He plays love songs, ballads, easy listening songs, and originals he has composed about Northern Michigan and his experiences. With roots from the days of the Beatles, he plays songs from a mix of artists including Hank Williams Sr., to Chris DeBurgh, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones.

 

Andrew Sturtz
With his mix of jazz, acoustic, and pop, Andrew Sturtz can be heard expressing his one-of-a-kind style all over Michigan. Andrew has received immense praise for his soothing vocals and powerful stage presence, which he brings to every performance.www.andrewsturtz.com.

 

Angela Josephine
Angela Josephine is a local singer-songwriter who has graced the stage of countless festivals, venues, and coffeehouses across the Midwest. In 2007, she was an Artist Ovation Contest Winner for Unity Festival in Muskegon, MI, and in 2006, her album, “Grace Exhaled,” was a finalist in the Detroit Music Awards. Ann Peterson
Despite never having formal training and being a self-professed “ear musician,” Ann Peterson takes command of the State Theatre’s organ, which she admits is somewhat of a challenge due to the sheer size of the instrument. Ann is also the organist at the Elks Lodge and takes pride in breaking the gender barrier by being the first woman to be initiated by the lodge. Since moving to Traverse City in 1979, Ann has made a living as an event musician, performing at various functions that include weddings, parades, and even a yacht party, in addition to being a member of various trios from time to time.

 

Aurorealis
A five-piece alternative rock group based out of Mt Pleasant, Michigan, Aurorealis has been taking the Tri-Cities music scene by storm. Using a blend of heavy, rock-driven riffing and soft acoustic melodies, they’ve created a unique sound which many have trouble comparing to any other act.

 

Barbara Faith Jordan
A singer-songwriter, Jordan has been writing and performing solo acts for more than 20 years. She enjoys writing songs that reflect facets of everyday life like love, loss, faith, hope, and humor in various styles like folk, country, pop and a little jazz. Ben Swan
Ben Swan is 19 years old and has been playing guitar since the age of 11. In 7th and 8th grade, Ben and his brother started a band named Crash Melody and proceeded to record a full album. When his brother took off for Minneapolis, Ben kept writing and performing regularly. Now working on his own solo/acoustic material, Ben is preparing to release his six-song EP “Birds Of A Feather” (July 2011).

 

 

Brett Mitchell
Born and raised in Midland, MI, Brett picked up the sticks in his early teens and fell in love. Drumming professionally and touring by age 17 in a variety of bands, he began songwriting. To assist his writing, he taught himself guitar and by 2005 had recorded his debut album, {Stereo}, playing nearly all the instruments. His heartfelt songwriting and appealing vocals are the draw and his live show is high energy and riveting.

 

David Chown
David has been playing piano professionally for more than 25 years. He has released six CD’s on his own label, and his latest, “S’Bout Time”, is a collaboration with singer Miriam Pico. In addition to solo piano concerts and club appearances, David leads a popular variety band, the “Lookout Cats,” which features some of Traverse City’s top musicians. www.davidchown.com.

 

David Jake
David Jake has been a street performer for three years and has experience in the Alma College Choir and Scots on the Rock a capella group. His goal is to use music, along with interaction and showmanship, to give people a positive experience wherever he may be performing.

 
Deborrah Wyndham
Pianist/composer and singer-songwriter Deborrah Wyndham has performed for more than 2,700 audiences. Seen on FOX, NBC, and ABC, her playing has been described as “a cross between Liberace and Bill Evans.” With a wide range of styles such as jazz, folk, blues, contemporary, ragtime, stride, Celtic, folk-alternative, and pop, Deborrah’s music appeals to all ages.

 

Dennis Palmer
Dennis obtained his “15 minutes of fame” by winning a national songwriting contest for his song “Bird of Prey.” He has since released four CDs of original music ranging from acoustic blues to contemporary folk. With an eclectic style that is both introspective and thought provoking, his music has raised comparisons to artists including Gordon Lightfoot and Duncan Sheik. Born and raised near Saginaw, MI, Palmer now lives in Leelanau County among the places and people that inspire much of his music.

 

Duo Finezza
Duo Finezza features Evita Sonner of Traverse City, MI, and Stevan Jović of Serbia. Sonner is pursuing a degree in classical guitar performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. In addition to performing in Duo Finezza, she is an active member of the IU Latin American Popular Music Ensemble. Jović began playing classical guitar at age 8. His unique style blends his classical training with the cultural influence of Balkan folklore and Gypsy musical tradition. Jović has performed all throughout Serbia, Europe and the United States.

 

Emma Cook
At 15, Emma began to focus her attention on the guitar, piano and writing songs. Inspired by her life in Northern Michigan and Burlington, VT, Emma’s songs are about caves, the cosmos, butterflies, the various forms of love, and much more. An easy listening vocalist, with simple back up instrumentation, Emma is a musician that can find a place in almost any setting.

 

Hannah Rae Beale
Self-motivated, determined, and full of tenacity, this self-taught guitarist and singer/songwriter had more than 30 original compositions by the time she was 17. Hannah has performed at many venues from Frankfort to Milwaukee.

 

 

Hipps-N-Ricco
Hipps-N-Ricco is an acoustic duo playing original, bluesy, funky, folky songs all over Michigan and beyond! The band was a semi-finalist at the 2009 International Blues Challenge. Check them out at www.hippsnricco.com.

 

The Injured List
Band members include Nathan Marks (singer/songwriter and keyboard), Ashton Parsons (drummer), Steve Ayre (bass guitar), James Parsons (lead guitar) and Tom Trombino (guitar). Nathan Marks’ songs feature emotional story lines with lyrical twists and driving tempos. James Parsons and Tom Trombino are excellent at technical guitar instrumentation and do a fabulous job of complementing one another. Ashton Parsons is a talented recording artist and is solid in providing defining percussion elements to each of the songs and Steve Ayre’s strong and demanding bass lines bring it all together rhythmically.

 

 

Jere Stormer
Jere has played festivals all over the midwest such as Dune Grass, Thumb Fest, Farm Fest, Traverse City Indoor Folk Festival, the Flint Folk Festival, the Detroit Festival of the Arts and Arts, Beats & Eats and has earned a dedicated following in the Great Lakes region.

 

 

K Jones and the Benzie Playboys
K Jones and the Benzie Playboys play some great “old school” zydeco and cajun music with traditional button accordions, fiddles, and washboard for an authentic Louisiana dance experience.

 

Kate Monaghan
Kate Monaghan is a Michigan native, currently residing in metro Detroit. In the midst of finishing her first album, she has been working hard to create pieces that move, inform, and challenge. She writes about what is familiar: life, love, loss, faith, fear, hope—universal things that encourage us to move beyond just ourselves and hold fast to truth.

 

 

Lac La Belle
Lac La Belle is an acoustic duo from Detroit, MI, that juxtaposes the early decades of recorded rural American music with decaying Rustbelt aesthetic. A tradition is reimagined—or maybe just resumed—in the ‘future-rustic’ swirl of accordion, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and resonator guitar. The instrumentation echoes another era, but is employed for a music of now.

 

Laurie Sears
Laurie Marino Sears, saxophone and flute, performs throughout the state of Michigan, presenting music with her jazz groups, with the Jeff Haas Quartet, performing with Broadway at Wharton Center and Broadway Grand Rapids touring shows (most recently with the musicals “Chicago” and “Shrek”) and with symphony orchestras in Traverse City, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Laurie’s experiences also include the Chicago Jazz Festival, Ravinia, and jazz festivals.

 

Lena Maude
Lena Maude is a Michigan-based singer songwriter. Much of her inspiration is derived from family and nature. Her whimsical sound and fury, excellent range, and witty borderline social activism establish her as uniquely clever, quirky and modest.

 

Luke Winslow-King
Luke Winslow-King is a singer/songsmith, multi-instrumentalist, and composer on a journey to become a true musical expeditionary. Inspired by New Orleans ragtime, impressionism, delta and country blues, poetry, folk, and classical composition, his sound is both rustic and elegant.

Milagros
Milagros (sometimes called Millie by her friends) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in February of 1992. Her name, Milagros, translates to “miracle” and all who know her
believe that is true. Milagros was raised in a home where everyone shares a great love of music and art. She has had the support of her entire family to develop her musical vocation. She is a student of journalism, piano studies and writes short stories and songs.

Nathan Schmall
Nathan Schmall plays the acoustic guitar and ukulele. His alternative singer/songwriter style is quite unique both lyrically and vocally. He’s been in the Traverse City music scene on and off for the last few years, appearing at various open mic nights, collective performances at bars, and coffeehouses.

 The Nephews
Drawing on a deep reservoir of American music, The Nephews repertoire is rooted in old time country music, country blues and rock & roll, but includes many songs which are not easy to categorize. Their songs have two things in common, whether they are ditties remembered from childhood or something one of them heard on the radio yesterday – they are always interesting and they always have soul.
 

Robin Lee Berry
Robin Lee Berry has been called “The Soul of Northern Michigan” by Robert Downes and her voice described by Greg Brown to be like “clear spring water gushing out of a deep place in the earth. It goes right to your heart.” Robin brings all this to her passion for music and her love for the gift of life on this extraordinarily beautiful planet.

 

 

Soul Patch
Soul Patch is a band based in Traverse City, MI, that boasts music as versatile as its members. Individually they infuse styles from several backgrounds including, world beat, jazz, reggae, bluegrass, funk, surf, rockabilly, ska, blues, and straight up rock n’ roll. Their original music that spans three decades and can only be described at eclectic, taking ideas from any one of the three songwriters in the band and plugging them into the musical vessel that is Soul Patch. The output is a sweet ride of organic grooves for your mind and feet.

 

Summerson
Summerson is composed of five solo musicians who love to play music together! Rick and Amber Buist met in Nashville, TN, in 1993. Amber was a session singer for TMR and Bunkhouse Studios and had a development deal with Arista Records. Rick played piano on the Grand Ole Opry for Bill Anderson before signing on to tour with Country Artists Terry Clark and Doug Stone. Savannah Buist is notorious for her electric blue violin and pure vocals. They began playing around town as Summerson in 2008 and Matt Mansfield joined them on guitar and vocals. When he isn’t playing with Soul Patch or serving amazing lattes at Pattiserie Amie, you can find Luke Purcell sitting in on percussion.

 

SweetWater Blues Band
American roots music with a “bluesy” attitude, SweetWater Blues Band is comprised of eclectic, diverse individuals united in their common love of music. The band gravitates to the sound of “Chicago style” blues, including stellar musical performances in the genres of rhythm & blues, soul, and contemporary classic music. www.sweetwaterbluesband.com

 

Taylor Fernandez
Rooted and raised on pure American soil, blended with Cuban seeds, and rolled naturally into an independent and passionate budding musical artist, Taylor Fernandez is a singer/songwriter with a fearless style that ranges through the genres of country, pop, folk, and rock.

 

 

Tom Kaufmann
Pianist, singer, and harmonica player, Tom Kaufmann has entertained audiences in Northwest Lower Michigan for more than 25 years and has been performing regularly at the Top of the Park Place Hotel since 2001. Tom is the owner of Tinkertunes Music Studios, now in its 15th year, which is dedicated to the promotion of early childhood music education. In addition, he recently constructed the Earth Tones Music Garden, a collection of unusual hands-on, outdoor musical instruments at the Raven Hill Discovery Gallery.

 

The Trillium Singers
The Trillium Singers have been entertaining audiences since 2006. Their distinct style and varied repertoire communicates that they are indeed flexible and talented singers. Their performances have brought smiles to faces and set toes to tapping in the many performance venues and churches in Northern Michigan.

 

Tongue Family String Band
The Tongue Family Band has been active on the Northern Michigan music scene since 2006 with Steve on guitar, Amy on flute, daughters Abby (age 15) and Lara (age 13) on fiddles, and youngest daughter Emma (age 10) on the cello and bodhran (Irish Drum). Lara and Emma are also Irish step dancers, which adds visual dazzle to their performances.

 

The Waltz Pistols
The Waltz Pistols are Bob Saddler (fiddle) and Joe Bottenhorn (guitar). Together they play an eclectic blend of old-time jigs, reels, waltzes, swing, jazz, and polkas.

 

 

White Wolf Black Bear
White Wolf Black Bear is musical duo composed of two local teenagers, Marty Yaple and Chas Helge. Marty Yaple is well versed in singing, guitar, and songwriting as well as drums. Hailing from Manistee, Chas has played cello for the majority of his life. Together, Marty and Chas bring their musical skills to play folk music that reflects their experiences growing up and living in Northern Michigan.
