Friends,

Woo hoo! We just got the official word that a true Hollywood legend and one of my personal heroes is coming to here to Traverse City to be part of this summer’s Traverse City Film Festival!

Two-time Academy Award-winning actress, author, and American icon Jane Fonda will be joining us in TC to receive our festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award the week of July 31-August 5.

We’ll be screening the incredible new documentary about her life and work, “Jane Fonda in Five Acts,” directed by Susan Lacy, with both Jane and Susan in attendance. And we’ll also be showing a special 40th anniversary screening of her Oscar-winning film, “Coming Home,” along with another Oscar-winning masterpiece of hers, “Julia.”

And the best part: A FREE outdoor screening of her classic hit “9 to 5,” also starring Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton, will be showing on the big screen right on the bay at the Open Space!

Friends, there are few other artists who have had the courage to stand up for basic human values — peace, women’s rights, etc. — more than Jane Fonda. What an honor for us to welcome and be inspired by the work of this American treasure. Her voice is needed now more than ever.

Expect more exciting announcements of films and guests in the coming week or so, and be sure to check out the complete schedule when I announced it on Friday, June 29 online at tcff.org.

If you want to be sure to nab your tickets early to these and other upcoming events, it’s not too late to become a Friend of the Film Festival and be able to buy your tickets a week before the public, starting on Sunday, July 15.

This is the year you won’t want to miss.

See you at the fest!

Yours,

Michael Moore
