A Message from Mike: And We’re Rolling!

Friends,

The Big Day has arrived! The day that we announce the great movies we’ve chosen to be shown at the 15th Annual Traverse City Film Festival!

This year’s list of films is a stunner crop of exhilarating, intense, hilarious, and provocative movies that we’ve invited to TC to share with tens of thousands of movie lovers who will visit us beginning on July 27th.

We’re also very proud to announce that comedy legend and Detroit-native Lily Tomlin will be here in person to accept our Lifetime Achievement Award, appear at the screenings of her films, and join me (and you) in a live conversation in the stage of the State Theatre.

We will also present the World Premiere of what may be the most proactive film yet made about how we are dealing with the climate change and other environmental crises – PLANET OF THE HUMANS by filmmaker Jeff Gibbs. I promise you will not be the same after you see this urgent film.

Other highlights at this summer’s fest include:

A special 50th anniversary outdoor celebration of Woodstock – by showing the Oscar-winning original film WOODSTOCK in the open space park under the stars along with a new WOODSTOCK DOC!

A live appearance by enfant terrible Kathy Griffin, along with a new documentary about her controversial comedy act;

A new film by Michiganders Jeff Daniels and Timothy Busfield – “Guest Artist;”

The theme of this year’s festival is “Cinema Saves the World.” We are bringing so many films next month which carry this hope – the belief that one great movie can make this world a better place. Imagine six days of this! And all of them entertaining – thrilling, mind blowing, insightful, powerful.

And now comes the moment for you to die in and see for yourself all that we have in store for you at this year’s fest! There’s a lot of ground to cover on these pages in the below link to our killer guide. Or pick up your own copy at the State Theatre or your favorite spot to grab the Northern Express.

VIEW THE SCHEDULE NOW!

We are bringing a record number of filmmakers with their films to Traverse City, and we will be showing a record number of new fiction features. We’ll have other surprise guests in store for you in announcements still to come.

Friends of the Film Festival will be able to get first shot at tickets starting Sunday, July 7, and then the public on Saturday, July 13. If you’re a Friend, watch your inbox for your ticket purchase and online login information. If you’re not a Friend there’s still time to signup!

We live in one of the most wonderful places on earth. I personally look forward to showing you these great movies and talking to you about them at the parties, the panels, at our film school, and on the beach.

“Cinema Saves the World!” Let’s do it!

In movie solidarity,
Michael Moore
