The State’s been closed this week for preparations for July’s upcoming TC Film Festival, but we are opening the doors back up today to host – by popular demand – an extra week of screenings of the critically acclaimed film “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” This first-rate adaptation of the international best-selling thriller by Stieg Larsson is the all-time box office champ at home in Sweden, and a major hit in every other European country where it has played.

The film tells the story of disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist), who after being forced out of his position at Millennium magazine on a trumped-up libel charge accepts an assignment from Henrik Vanger (Sven-Bertil Taube), the patriarch of a powerful family of industrialists, to investigate the long-unsolved murder of Vanger’s niece Harriet. Needing tech know-how to decrypt some business records, Blomkvist goes to pierced, tattooed twenty-something hacker Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace), with whom the midlle-aged journalist forms an unlikely detective duo.
Filmgoers have been coming out of this movie telling us it’s one of their favorite films they’ve ever seen at the State. It plays now through next Thursday – don’t miss it! For showtimes and ticket information, click here.
