Every year, some of the best Traverse City Film Festival memories are made at the free outdoor Open Space movies, which are shown on a huge inflatable screen right on beautiful West Bay. All Open Space films start at dusk (approximately 9:30pm), but arriving early will not only get you a great seat, but will also allow you to enjoy fantastic live music and exciting movie-themed pre-show entertainment!
Tuesday: ”Twister” will be shown on the outdoor screen. Get there early, but watch out! The forecast calls for tornadoes (and maybe even flying cows!)
Wednesday: Before Disney’s “Finding Nemo,” patrons can help Dory and Nemo escape the jaws of a giant whale! The whale will be set up in the Open Space for kids and adults to admire, but don’t get too close to the blowhole unless you don’t mind getting wet!
Thursday: The festival is pleased to announce that in conjunction with TCFF’s Beatles Tribute, a rare print of “Help!” will be showing at the Open Space. But be sure to get there early, because pre-show entertainment will include a Beatles karaoke contest and a Beatles look-alike costume contest! The contests will begin at 7pm, and winners for the karaoke concert will be announced at 8pm, and 9:30pm for the costume contest. Prizes, including TCFF merchandise and tickets, dessert coupons to Amical, and a product basket from Salon Verve, will be awarded to first and second prize winners. Come join in the Beatles Mania!
Friday: Before “Raising Arizona,” Leonard Smalls may be spotted riding around the Open Space on his motorcycle, and Hi and Ed will even be there to save little Arizona, Jr.! Don’t miss the fun before this hilarious film!
Saturday: Saturday night will bring “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” to the big screen, where Indy and his dad will be seen riding around the perimeter of the Open Space in a motorcycle with the infamous sidecar. A replica car from the movie will also be on display, so be sure to bring your camera!
Sunday: We are excited to be showing Disney’s “Mary Poppins”! And before the show, look up in the sky for Mary and Bert as they fly high over the Open Space!

We hope to see you there!

I just heard city may not let the movies play at open space due to the lawn condition. Is this true?
I have not heard this. Is TC going to cancel the Cherry Festival too because of the grass? TC is getting a little ridiculous with all the rules and regulations. Before we now it, TC will have nice grass and no beaches. I like to be on the beach in alot of weeds!
The grass, thats ridicious.Where else are people going to sit. come on be for real.Go an enjoy the movie thats why they have the film festival.
